I still remember the evening it all began. It was 2015, and I was sitting at home in Dubai after a long shift, mindlessly scrolling through YouTube, when I came across a video about the Korean 10-step skincare routine. I almost kept scrolling. But something made me stop and by the time it ended, I was completely captivated.
I am a radiologist. My entire career is built around seeing beneath the surface, finding what is hidden, understanding the body in ways most people never think about. So when I discovered Korean skincare. this beautifully methodical, deeply intentional approach to caring for your skin. It spoke to something in me that was both personal and professional. This wasn’t just beauty. This was philosophy. This was science. This was self-love, packaged in layers.
Growing up in Dubai, I had always been surrounded by beauty and luxury, but Korean skincare felt different. It wasn’t about covering up. It was about nurturing, protecting, and truly understanding your skin from the inside out. For the first time, I didn’t just want great skin. I wanted to understand my skin.
What began as a late-night rabbit hole became a decade-long love affair. I read everything I could. I tried product after product. I fell in love with essences and ampoules, with the patience required to let each layer sink in before adding the next a patience I recognised from medicine, from the slow, careful work of diagnosis and care.
And then it became something more. The doctor who believes in evidence and ingredients. The woman from Dubai who grew up between cultures and always felt drawn to the beauty rituals of others. The person who watched that YouTube video one quiet evening and felt, for the first time, that skincare could be something truly transformative.
This journey has taught me that beauty and medicine are not so far apart. Both ask you to pay attention. Both reward consistency and patience. And both, at their best, are acts of care for yourself and for others. I am still learning, still layering, still falling deeper in love with the world of Korean skincare. And I cannot wait to share everything I have discovered with you.
